DAY 1:
LONDON - BEAUVAIS - GIVERNY - ROUEN
We pick you up at your selected hotel in London and drive you to the airport from where we take the morning flight to the city of Beauvais. You meet your DG at the airport, board your maxi-van and start this expedition. In Beauvais, the tallest gothic cathedral ever was built. The village of Giverny is the place where the painter Claude Monet made his house, studio and the artificial pond, where he painted his famous water lillies. Dinner and overnight in the nearby capital of Normandy - Rouen.
DAY 2:
ROUEN - DEAUVILLE
Breakfast. In Rouen, the most impressive sight is of course it's gothic Cathedral, but there are other sights like the Gros Horloge (a town clock) and Joan of Arc memorial church standing on the very place where she was burned. Then we travel through the back roads of Brotonne Forest and along the Seine towards the Atlantic ocean, arriving to the famous film festival resort Deauville. Overnight in Deauville area.
DAY 3:
CAEN
Breakfast. Caen’s has some interesting sights and the museum dedicated to WWII. Later we drive along the Gold, Juno and Omaha beaches and make stops along the way - like Arromanche museum, Longeville military cemetery, German guns and so on. Overnight in Caen area.
DAY 4:
CHAMBORD - BLOIS
Breakfast. Chambord is the biggest and most impressive castle on the Loire. The afternoon will be spent in Blois, with another intriguing castle, a royal residence in the time of Catherine Medici where political murders took place. Overnight on Loire.
DAY 5:
DINAN
Breakfast. The back roads to Dinan take us first to the village of St.Mere- Eglise, which is famous because an American paratrooper was dangling from the steeple of their church during the heavy fighting, and then to the castle of Pirou, which may be the oldest in Normandy. Dinan itself is perfectly preserved citadel with many half-timbered houses and a steep cobbled street that leads to the river port and old bridge. Overnight in Dinan.
DAY 6:
MT. ST. MICHEL - ST.MALO
Breakfast. Mt. St. Michel is one of the great wonders of France. It is built on a small island, with narrow streets and an abbey. Bishop Aubert had a vision of Archangel Michael ordering him to build this sanctuary. Cancale is a historic oyster port, where we stop for a snack. St.Malo was heavily bombed and restored, but it makes an interesting stop. You have time to explore the town on your own. Overnight in Dinan.
DAY 7:
THE PINK GRANITE COAST
Breakfast. Before getting to the Pink Granite Coast, we visit a small village of Paimpol, a typical Breton longshore fishing port, whose Atlantic cod - fisheries have been superseded by oyster cultivation. The 12-mile stretch of coast is named Pink granite coast because of the red granite boulders along the coast, which look particularly interesting at sunset. Overnight in the area.
DAY 8:
MORLAIX - LANDERNAU - CONCARNEAU
Breakfast. Morlaix is attractively sited in a deep valley with the town centre which retains a few old slate- faced houses from the 16C - 17C - like the Grande Rue. Landernau at the head of the Elorn estuary has a picturesque bridge Vieux Pont. Concarneau is a thriving fishing port, with large canning factories for tuna and sardines. It is attractively sited on the shore of the Bay of Forest. Accommodation in Quimperle area.
DAY 9:
CARNAC - VANNES
Breakfast. Carnac is very famous for the megalithic monuments, the most extensive of their kind, comprising no fewer than 2730 standing and fallen menhirs. Vannes, is a lively port in the Gulf of Morbihan with the attractive houses in the old quarter. Overnight in the Vannes area.
DAY 10:
THE GULF OF MORBIHAN
Breakfast. Gulf of Morbihan is known as the little sea in Breton. The gulf is a broad expanse of tidal water with deep tributary creeks and numerous shoals and islets opening onto the Atlantic by a strait no more than a mile wide. At high water the effects of color and light are impressive. We take a boat ride around the gulf. Overnight in the Vannes area.
DAY 11:
JOSSELIN - RENNES
Breakfast. Josselin is an attractive old village with the majestic castle ruins. Rennes is the capital of Brittany and we visit all the main sights in the city and have some time to explore the city centre on your own. Overnight in Rennes.
DAY 12:
FOUGERES - DINAN
Breakfast. Depart towards Fougeres, an ancient fortress on the borders of Brittany, which is unusually set below the town. It was the capital of one of the nine great Breton baronies. After the sightseeing of the old part of town and the castle, we continue our tour back towards the town of Dinan. Overnight in Dinan.
DAY 13:
DINARD - LONDON
Breakfast. Driving to the airport from where we will fly to London.End of our expedition.
