DAY 1:
LONDON - ARHUS
We pick you up at your selected hotel in London and drive you to the airport from where we take the morning flight to the city of Arhus. You meet your DG at the airport, board your maxi-van and start this expedition. Like many other cities around here, Arhus is of Viking origin. It is also the cultural capital of Denmark. We find out something about the Danish way of life in Den Gamble By open-air museum. Dinner and overnight in Arhus.
DAY 2:
LEGOLAND - ODENSE
Breakfast. Before we drive toward the garden of Denmark, the island of Funen, we make a half day stop at the original Legoland. In Odense, named after the mighty pagan god Odin and the birthplace of HC Andersen, we visit Andersen museum and stroll around the compact city center. Overnight in the Odense area.
DAY 3:
COPENHAGEN
Breakfast. We continue to the next island - Zeland and drive beyond the highest point in Denmark - 254 meters high pylons of the bridge. In Copenhagen, we do a panoramic circle with the main sights, like the Little Mermaid, Amalienborg and the Marble church, the Nyhavn and the beautiful Borse building, the Parliament and the main streets known as Stroget. Overnight in the city of Copenhagen.
DAY 4:
NORTH ZELAND - ROSKILDE
Breakfast. We explore the Northern Zeland: the Danish Riviera, Hamlet's (Kronborg) Castle, which guards the narrow strip of water between Denmark and Sweden, the beautiful renaissance Frederik Castle; and the old Danish capital of Roskilde, with the Viking ship museum in the Roskilde fjord and the royal chapels in the Cathedral. Back in Copenhagen you have time to visit the gardens of Tivoli. Overnight in Copenhagen.
DAY 5:
MALMO - LUND
Breakfast. The 10 mile Oresund Bridge is the first thing we see, when we drive towards Sweden. Over the bridge and into Sweden, or more precisely Skane, which they say is still more Danish than Swedish. The two towns we explore today are the University towns of Lund and Malmo. They are both very appealing and lively. Malmo has a nice pedestrianised city center with canals and squares like Stortorget and Lilla Torget. Overnight in Malmo.
DAY 6:
SMALAND - KALMAR
Breakfast. We drive the backroads of Skane and feel the real local life. The county here is called Smaland and is it very well known for glassmaking, so between Vexjo and Kalmar, we make a stop in Kosta and see the spectacular glass products. Kalmar is a very important historic town, beautifully set on a tiny island with walls and a storybook castle. Overnight in the Kalmar area.
DAY 7:
OLAND
Breakfast. We may take a day to explore the Oland Island - one of the Baltic islands, flat and dotted with some 400 castles and windmills. You can just as easily stay in Kalmar and visit the Kronen expedition - the museum dedicated to the 17C warship which was the biggest of its time and which sank with 800 men aboard. Accommodation in the Kalmar area.
DAY 8:
STOCKHOLM
Breakfast. We continue our expedition towards the capital of Sweden. When we arrive in Stockholm we take a panoramic tour and an evening stroll around the Kungstradgarten, where there is always something interesting going on. Overnight in Stockholm.
DAY 9:
STOCKHOLM
Breakfast. We have a full day to explore the beautiful "Venice of the North". We see the three islands of the Old Town, and visit the famous Vasa Ship museum. In the afternoon you are encouraged to take a boat ride and check out the city from the sea or take a ferry to the Drottningholm royal palace. Overnight in Stockholm.
DAY 10:
UPPSALA - STOCKHOLM ARCHIPELAGO
Breakfast. First we visit the university town of Uppsala - with the largest cathedral in the country and the succession of striking historical buildings. The many backroads of the Stockholm archipelago hide unexpected jewels, like the Millesgarden Park of sculptures or the wooden harbour town of Vaxholm. You should take the ferry/boat back to Stockholm. Overnight in Stockholm.
DAY 11:
LAKE VATTERN
Breakfast. On the way to Lake Vattern, we stop at the tiny village of Mariefried with the imposing Gripsholm castle. Next, in Eskilstuna you may wish to visit a very interesting museum which shows traditional crafts of the 17C. We continue our way south to the shores of Lake Vattern. Overnight in the area.
DAY 12:
GOTHENBURG
Breakfast. We continue south to the final stop of our expedition. It is true that Gothenburg is the biggest Scandinavian port, but it has a beautiful city center with canals and a lot of green areas, pedestrian streets and lively pubs. You should also take the one- hour "Paddan" boat tour around the canals. Overnight in Gotenburg.
DAY 13:
GOTENBURG - LONDON
Breakfast. Drive to the airport from where we will fly to London. End of our expedition.
